Wrinkle Relaxers

These medications are sometimes referred to as neuromodulators and are used to treat wrinkles that appear with movement (dynamic wrinkles). Wrinkle relaxers work by inhibiting nerve activity which blocks muscle contraction, essentially freezing the muscle. All of these muscles work in harmony, so it is very important to have an experienced injector who knows the underlying anatomy and natural movements of the face.

Pricing is by units. Different areas of the face require different amounts of units. For example, the crow’s feet (by the eyes) usually requires between 10-16 units per side, between the eyebrows requires about 20-40 units, and the forehead between 10 to 30 units. The average number of units is typically around 50 units per session. Dysport is dosed differently than other wrinkle relaxers.

Botox Cosmetic is often considered the “gold standard” in wrinkle relaxers. It is FDA approved for “crow’s feet” (lines on sides of the eyes), between the eyebrows (11’s), and forehead lines. Botox is FDA approved for chronic migraine relief and primary axillary hyperhidrosis (excessive underarm sweating). Botox starts working 2-10 days after treatment; it’s important to note the effects are not immediate. The results typically last 3-6 months.

Xeomin is a wrinkle relaxer that is FDA approved for frown lines between the eyebrows. “Naked” form of the neuromodulator so it may be appropriate for a person with a history of non-responsiveness to other wrinkle relaxers. Dosing of units, onset, and duration is similar to Botox.

Dysport is a product FDA approved for reducing wrinkles between the eyebrows. Onset is 2-10 days and it lasts 3-6 months. Dosing of units is different than the other neuromodulators.

Dermal Fillers

Juvederm encompasses a family of fillers made of of hyaluronic acid (HA) by the company Allergan that vary in concentration and molecular bonding. They contain lidocaine for maximum comfort during injection.

Juverderm Ultra and Ultra Plus XC are FDA approved to treat mild to moderate wrinkles and folds around the nose and mouth (nasolabial folds & marionette lines) and lip augmentation. Juvederm Ultra and Ultra Plus offer a plumping effect with a natural feel. Results typically last 6 months.

Juvederm Vollure is FDA approved for moderate to severe laugh lines (lines around the nose) and smiles lines (lines around the mouth). Vollure provides balance for a smoother appearance and lasts up to 18 months.

Juvederm Volbella FDA approved to soften vertical lips lines (sometimes referred to as “smoker lines”) and increase lip fullness for up to 1 year. The product provides a smooth appearance, subtle enhancements, and allows for natural expression.

Juvederm Voluma is FDA approved for adding subtle volume to the midface, specifically the cheekbones. Voluma XC can help restore more youthful contours by plumping up the area that tends to hollow and address changes in definition that occur with age. Adding volume to the mid-face not only enhances the shape of cheeks but the lifting effect can help reduce laugh lines. By lifting, it can also return a firmer shape to the jaw line. This filler lasts up to 2 years.

Restylane is a family of hyaluronic acid (HA) fillers from the company Galderma. They vary in particle size and cross-linking which effects their flexibility and firmness. It is important to choose the correct filler depending on the area it is to be used.

Restylane-L is FDA approved to treat moderate to severe laugh lines and for lip enhancement. It smooths out wrinkles and deeper folds in the nasolabial area (around the nose and mouth). It contains lidocaine for maximum comfort. Results last about 6 months.

Restylane Lyft is FDA approved for correcting voluming loss in the midface, marionette lines, laugh lines, and back of the hands. It can be used to create structure in the cheeks by lifting and contouring. Restylane Lyft makes hands look years younger by making veins and tendons less visible when used in the back of the hands Contains lidocaine for maximum injection comfort. Results typically last 6 months.

Restylane Silk is FDA approved for lip augmentation and improving perioral wrinkles (lines around the mouth). It creates a smooth, silky appearance and maintains natural movements. Results typically lasts 6 months.

Restylane Kysse is the newest product from the line FDA approved for lip enhancement, perioral lines, and oral commissures. It allows for natural movements and expression. The product is able to provide a hydrated look with crisp borders and volumize where needed since it is specifically designed for the lips and surrounding area. Contains lidocaine for maximum comfort. Results lasts up to 12 months.

Restylane Refyne is a FDA approved filler to help soften moderate laugh and smile lines. It is designed to restore volume while maintaining a natural look. Your facial expressions won’t be compromised. Contains lidocaine for maximum comfort. Lasts up to 1 year.

Restylane Defyne is FDA approved for deep laugh and smile lines. This product helps restore a more youthful appearance while maintaining your natural expressions. Contains lidocaine for maximum comfort. Lasts up to 1 year.

Belotero Balance is a hyaluronic acid filler FDA approved for moderate to severe lines & wrinkles around the mouth. Belotero integrates well into the surrounding tissue giving it natural look, feel, and movement. It contains lidocaine for maximum comfort. Results lasts up to 6 months.

Radiesse is a FDA approved calcium-based filler for hand rejuvenation. This filler made of calcium hydroxyapatite immediately plumps and replenishes the back of the hands to provide a supple and youthful appearance. Injections are placed just beneath the skin so that tendons, joints, and veins loose their prominence making hands look years younger. Another version of Radiesse can be used in the lower face to reduce moderate to severe wrinkles and folds. Radiesse lasts up to 1 year.

Kybella is a FDA approved minimally invasive treatment for “double chin”. It is made from deoxycholic acid, a substance the human body naturally secretes in the GI tract to break down fat cells and cholesterol. It is meant for people with moderate to severe submental (under the chin) fullness. Treatment involves a series of multiple injections at a time and requires a series of treatments 4-8 weeks apart. Results are permanent.

Liquid Butt Lift the same product that is used elsewhere on the body can be used to build volume in the buttocks. Obtaining desired results typically requires multiple vials per side (approximately 4-12) and series of sessions with maintenance treatments every 9-12 months.

Microneedling is a minimally invasive treatment sometimes referred to as collagen induction therapy (CIT).
